In this section of Demonstrations Ontario, practitioners can learn more about the principles of fair assessment practice. These principles apply to all aspects of assessment, regardless of which assessment approach, method, or tool is chosen. The principles of fair assessment have been compiled over the years by many experienced educators, and they are what principally inform the judgments of assessors when critical choices for assessment methods are made.

Fair Assessment

Whether the practitioner is a new or experienced adult literacy instructor, it is important to know that assessment results matter to the learner, to the practitioner, to the funder, and maybe also to the public. It is an ongoing challenge for instructors to ensure that assessment methods and results fairly and accurately represent the good things which have happened as a result of programming. It is important to periodically go back to the principles of fair assessment and apply that knowledge to whichever method of assessment the practitioner has chosen.
